Welcome to Creekside Commons: an intergenerational cohousing community nestled on nine acres in the heart of the Comox Valley. #405 is a recently renovated home that offers the chance to experience intentional living in a supportive, thriving, and well-developed community. Community members choose their level of involvement, working on various teams, projects, and social activities.

Owners benefit by being able to use a 3,500 sq. ft. Common House, which includes a large hall for gatherings, yoga, dances, classes, and movie nights. Also, you will find a meeting room, lounge, playroom, piano, two guest rooms and a well-stocked kitchen where shared meals are prepared.

Interior

This 2007 quality-built and well-maintained 1,490 sq. ft. duplex home has three bedrooms –one up and two down – two full baths, an added 120 sq. ft. sunroom, and a storage/laundry room over a clean, dry, heated three-foot crawl space. Five skylights, including one opening skylight, provide for a bright and cheery atmosphere.

 

The open concept living space opens onto the sunroom. All main floor rooms have 36” wide doors to allow wheelchair accessibility and aging in place. All areas have cork flooring, except for the stairs which have wool carpet, and the sunroom, which has vinyl flooring.

Storage and Laundry Room

A storage and laundry room includes a stacking washer and dryer. This room provides ample shelf space for supplies and tools. The freezer is included in the sale, as desired. The heated crawlspace is accessed from this room and provides more storage and access to wiring. The water shut-off has been relocated from the crawlspace to the utility room for easy access

Exterior

The Community

Creekside Commons was completed in 2007 and has grown into a wonderful, friendly, and cooperative community of 36 households. The Creekside strata has a healthy contingency fund for future repairs and servicing. Creekside is a model of effective decision making. Owners participate in running the community through consensus decision making and volunteer labour. Strata fees are currently $310 per month.

The property has a rural sense yet is conveniently accessible to many urban resources. Within walking distance is lively downtown Courtenay, the library, Driftwood mall with a movie theatre, and a funky coffee house in artsy Tin Town. Outdoor farmers' markets provide locally produced fruits, vegetables, wine, cheese and other products.  And all within a 30-minute drive are Comox International airport, world class mountain biking in Cumberland, hiking, alpine and nordic skiing at Mt Washington. Canoeing, kayaking, and beachcombing are popular activities in the area. As well, Creekside Commons is adjacent to a park with extensive wooded walking trails.
